Adding an emergency stop

I just got a 1980 Starcraft SuperSport 181 with a 140hp Mercruiser I/O. I am currently re-doing the floor and seats. My question is, how do i go about adding an emergency stop or killswitch to the helm? Thanks!

just to clarify... almost no wiring experience aside from standard (trailer, truck brake lights etc.)

Buy an aftermarket kill switch. It goes inline on the purple wire coming from the ignition switch going to the coil on the engine. Quick and easy.
