DOES ANYONE KNOW IF YOU NEED TO USE A PRIMER ON BARE FIBERGLASS OR IF YOU CAN JUST PUT BOTTOM BOAT PAINT ON IT AND THEN PAINT IT AGAIN? ALSO WE MIGHT HAVE HAD A BAD MIX WHEN PUTTING OUR LAST LAYER OF FIBER ON BECAUSE ITS BEEN A COUPLE OF DAYS AND IT HAS NOT HARDENED YET. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW I CAN FIX THIS?

Re: ADDING AND FIXING FIBERGLASS

I assume from your email that you've applied a layer of glass and the resin won't harden? I've done something similiar. Later found out that certain resins, and gel-coats for that matter, require the addition of a wax to the resin along with the normal hardner. Your resin may set eventually, mine did not, remained tacky for a week. You might experiment with a small area by applying another thin coat of resin with the wax and hardner or use another type resin. I changed resin manufacturers and it worked for me but no guarantee's in your case.

Been there done that
tony

Re: ADDING AND FIXING FIBERGLASS

At work we do all kinds of patch work on new boats, with fresh paint.( a few days old) All that is doe to them, is they will sand the area with a rotory sander to rough up the area. Wha ttype of catalyst did you use? Almost every brand we work with for different stages of production have differant gel times. Temperature is a factor in most gel times as well. Another factor is if you added enough catalyst, or even to much. If you add too much it will almost seem to ever kick/cure. Hope this helps you.
