Adding bilge pump

My boat currently does not have a bilge pump. There is just a trough that runs to the stern where my drain plug is. Can I just set a pump down in that area? Also, don"t want to drill a hole to add drain line so I was thinking of routing the line up and out with the outboard power and steering lines then just hang it over the keel. Is this somewhat of a normal install?

The pump base should be attached solidly, It doesn't work well if it is on it's side or upside down.

The discharge line over the stern is not normal. Drill the hole on either side, usually just below the rub rail if you have one.

What boat do you have?

I have a 1970 Duo Voyager if you ever heard of it or the company. Yea, the pump would end up just setting there, no place to fasten it to. Also dont want to drill a hole and for the drain. Guess the boat was not made for a bilge.

Have not seen one of your type boats, but many of the early ones didn't have bilge pumps. I have a 16 foot Chrysler (Outboard boat) which only has a small box area at the transom, and rest of the hull is filled with foam
