I recently bought a 1987 Glasstream 1550 in superb condition as a huge upgrade to our tin can jon boat. Has a 70hp Evinrude 2-smoke. Top speed (GPS) so far is 38 mph, averages about 36 with fishing gear and 2 kids additional in it. I usually only go WOT once in a while for fun, my normal speed is around 28. We rarely need to ride more than 5-10 minutes to our favorite spots.

The boat has 2 riding seats and 2 fishing pedestal mount seats. Obviously I can't let kids ride in the pedestal seats while on plane. Launching a child isn't something I want to witness.

I'd like to add at least one fixed riding seat. Usually when we fish we'll have two adults and a kid/teenager.

What is the best way to secure a seat for riding if adding it? I have room around the center to add one more folding seat but I want it secured better than a pedestal sitting on a pegged pole.

I'd also like it somewhat removable for when there's only 2 people. Any ideas?

I'd suggest a light weight, lightly padded to keep the weight down, captain's chair with arm rests on a short adjustable pedestal. Mount to the deck (floor) with the 9-12" regular pedestal mounting flange with the 2" pedestal mounting hole.

West Marine has something that will work:
Model (their catalog number) 378341, Ensign molded boat seat (has arm rests molded in), shipping wt 15#....actual probably about 14.....lot of seat for not much weight. Adjustable pedestal with floor flange: Model 9545864, probably 6# actual. You surely could find something else, but this will give you and idea about something that isn't too expensive yet should hold your youngguns pretty cozy.

Some lock in one position and reaching between your legs with palm on the seat, the fingers squeeze the release mechanism and the seat will swivel 359*. When not in use, just push the pedestal to flange lock and pull the pedestal out of the hole. Don't know if the suggestion locks or not....a nice convenience to have, but not necessary....their feet on the deck can keep the seat in the position selected.

I'd google something like "pedestal captain's chairs". once you get into that marine supplier's catalog, the pedestal and the flange will be right there.
