Adding Rack and Pinion to old OMC 100HP outboard.

Hi guys, <br /><br />I just got a cheap deal on a teleflex rack and pinion steering box and cable, about 50 bucks.<br /><br />Anyway, the cable is too long, so I have routed it in a way that gets it to the right places with no tight corners.. I understand how the wheel and stuff goes together,, but am alittle lost with regards to the rear setup.. my old Johnson doesn't have the tunnel hole through the transom brackets.. so I am not sure how to set it up..<br /><br />This is a 100 HP motor, I can't believe even back when it was new it used the old cable/pulleys method, so there must be a way to get it to fit???<br /><br />Has anyone set this sort of thing up before and can you give me some pointers??<br /><br />I am thinking that I probably need to make up some brackets.. has anyone done it before???<br /><br />any tips would be fantastic..<br /><br />regards<br /><br />Frank

Frank<br /><br />I e-mailed you the page from the Teleflex manual tonight. You are correct when you get back to the engine end the brand doesn't make a difference and Teleflex does now own Morse.

Frank<br /><br />Either mount works great it just depends on your transom as to which one to use.<br /><br />Happy I could help a guy from down under as I am a Foster's drinker.

Lol, well, there really is no accounting for taste <br /><br />I am an EMU Export drinkin myself.. <br /><br />Its actually quite funny, Fosters is one of Australia's best exports, but I don't know any Australians that drink it.. <br /><br />I don't mind it, but there are better Aussie beers to be had,, one thing a country full of ex convicts knows about is how to make a good beer. <br /><br />Thanks again for your help..<br /><br />regards<br /><br />Frank<br /><br />PS, does anyone know of a teleflex dealer that would ship international?? anything marine thats imported into Australia has 3 times the price of US...<br /><br />For example, a 88 Bayliner Ciera, my local dealer (good guys actually) are selling it for 50,000 dollars, (about 27,000 USD) <br />And it wasn't even that tidy.. and these guys are one of the cheapest dealers in WA...<br /><br />So I figured since this is fairly small, it wouldn't be that expensive to ship..<br /><br />any tips?<br /><br />FH
