Adding subwoofer to audio system

I bought my 2000 mastercraft 205v with a previously installed audio system which includes an amp and 4 tower speakers. I am interested in adding a subwoofer for a better bass. Would this require me rewiring the tower speakers and such or would I be able to easily install the subwoofer without the trouble of rewiring the entire system?

I would post a pic of the amp hook up area or list the make and model of said amp...

Easily is quite subjective but you shouldn't have to rewire what you have. But, it may be that rewiring what you have would be the easiest way.
Does your head unit have a sub output? That would be the simplest.
Assuming it doesn't I would use a pre-amp level crossover to split your existing output and send the bass to the sub and the rest to the tower speakers. Then, connect the sub output of the crossover to an amp and use that to drive the sub.
Really, there's probably almost 100 ways to do it and you provided basically no information to work with.

I'm a little late to the conversation but I just installed a sub with a 400w amp by using a signal converter that taps into an existing output. Or if you have an open output use that. This little gadget actually has a bass output knob that allows me to control the amount of bass output with going into the head settings.

If you head unit has a separate RCA output, use this directly to the amp.

Either way you wont have to rewire anything.

Oh, make sure the amp you use has a high/low pass filter and frequency selector as well!
