I am adding a troiling motor to my duck boat and am wondering some things.. The troiling motor has 2 wires coming off of it.. A black and a black/red.. The wires I have run from the male plug that I mounted on the front of the boat have 3 wires red, white, black... The female pulg that I need to tie onto the wires on the troiling motor also has 3 wires.. Red, Orange, and Black.. Is the Orange 12v and Red 24v??? And how should I tie this into the battery that will be my only thing on this battery.. So what would be the best battery for fishing all day if I dont and dont intend to put any in bank chargers on the boat, just charge the battery before I go out every time.. Thanks in advance..

Re: Adding Troilling Motor..

If the trolling motor only has two wires it can be either a 12V or a 24V so without a model number we don't know. Regardless, if the motor only has two wires, that's all you need to use in the male and female connectors. Red is +12V and Black is ground. The orange wire will not be used. If you had a troller that ran on EITHER 12 or 24V then the orange wire would be used. So -- I will assume your troller is a 12V and as such you need a 12V deep cycle battery. I would suggest you buy the largest capacity (Amp/hour) you have room for. When shopping, look for a battery labeled "Deep Cycle". You will also see Marine/RV, Marine Starting, and perhaps others. Batteries labeled Marine Dual Purpose (starting and deep cycle) should not be discharged more than 50% whereas true deep cycles can be repeatedly discharged 80%. Just make sure you know what you are buying. How long you can run the troller depends entirely on the size of the boat, the load, size fo the motor (thrust) and how efficient the motor is. Thats why the bigger the battery capacity is, the longer the motor will run.
