Re: adhesive for cowl seal

That 3M Weatherstrip Adhesive(Autozone $8/tube) is great stuff, but you need to clean your seal and cowl with solvent/acetone/similar to be sure it sticks good. I notice on my Yamaha cowl there's some stainless steel clips/staples that hold the seal on, so maybe some mechanical fasteners/screws AND the cement? I think the 3M stuff comes in Yellow and Black color. Those seals seem to be some kind of neoprene/rubber stuff that maybe most glues don't stick to very well? Good Luck!:)

Hipster,

If you're still in warranty (I forgot), I can send you a new, self-adhesive seal at no cost. FWIW, we have used 3M 5200 to reattach some seals. At issue is that the factory installation leaves zero slack in the seal, and after it dries out a little (and shrinks), it's almost impossible to reattach properly, especially in the corners.

Re: adhesive for cowl seal

the cowl for this engine was purchased in dec 0f 2009. i had the tree hit the house and boat in nov of 09. i replaced it with a nissan cowl because it was cheaper. i do not know if the part is under warranty. i appreciate the offer on the new seal. what would a new one cost? i will probably try the adhesive. after i clean it with solvent. it is loose in one section. thanks
