Im getting ready to put on my timing belt. My question is with #1 cylinder at TDC. Does the notch on the cranshaft pulley need to be lined up with 0deg mark on timing plate cover or 6deg mark? OR do i keep it on 0deg and adjust it to 6deg with the enging at idle by either advancing or retarding the distributor?

Re: Adjusting Ignition and timing on AQ131A Question

Installing the timing belt is valve timing, has nothing to do with the 6? ignition timing. Ignition timing is adjusted by moving the distributor, not the timing belt.
Install the timing belt as explained in the manual, do not over think it and do something that isn't needed.

Thanks, followed the manual and all the sprocket dots and pulley notches lined up with the markings on the timing belt. However, after hand cranking the engine several times none of the markings matched up with the sprocket dots. Came close to lining them up but never right on. I guess my question now is, how many rotations of the crankshaft before all the markings line up again? Or is something slipping? Does the engine complete its cycle in 1 360degree turn of the crankshaft or is it multiple turns and if it is multiple turns how do i find out where in the cycle it is?

Once you rotate the engine, the marks on the timing belt won't line up. What still needs to line up is the mark on the camshaft pulley and TDC of the engine.
