service manual says to hold carb upside down and adjust needle actuating
lever to have the bottom of the float at 1/4" from carb body bowl ring, no
problem. but then it says to turn carb over and adjust the drop of the
float where it is 1/64" from bottom of float to top of the main fuel jet, do
this adjustment by bending the float tang. Problem is old float had a metal
float tang and the new plastic float has a plastic tang that cant be bent
to adjust drop. Do you trim the tang to get the desired drop? My float is
1/8" from bottom of float to top of the main fuel jet.... Is this close enough?

Float drop adjustment is not as critical as the height so you should be good. The main reason for adjusting float drop is if it drops too far, the inlet needle can drop to the point where it jams the float. This causes the float bowl to overfill and flood the cylinders fed by that carb. The height adjustment sets the point where fuel into the carb is shut off.

Thank you for the quick reply. Maybe I can get it back in the water by
Saturday...
