my question is where should the tiller arm throttle be set when adjusting the points ? i see that when you move the tiller arm the point plate turns and messes up the gap ? does it matter where you set it as long as you are at the top of the lobe on the cam?also does it matter what plug wire goes to what cylinder?

wayne,

Just set the points to spec. at the top of the cam. I believe it's .020".

Yes the firing order matters. Not sure how to tell which one is which-can't remember.

You'll know if you have them switched.

thanks djohns19 i got it going what a big diffrence.i had so much play in the plate that the points bolted to it was changing the gap as far as .060 i replaced the plate points and plug wires and it runs 100% better. i did a compression test and i have 62 psi on both cylinders does that sound right ? the reason why i am asking is because its still alittle hard to start.the only thing i have not rebuilt yet would be the fuel pump and carb. but it runs great once its warm
