Volvo Penta sx-m outdrive. Replaced shift cable while replacing engine because cable broke at the adjuster nut on the outdrive shifter linkage. Got everything back together and have to pull the shifter slightly towards reverse to get the engine to crank because of the neutral safety. Tried to adjust but doesn’t seem to make any difference. Any specific way to adjust the cable. I haven’t had a water test or even got the new engine to fire yet. Got it to crank and called it a night. Plan to pull out of garage tomorrow and put on muffs and fire it up.

Its not a cable adjust problem you are dealing with, its the shifter itself. There is a micro switch inside the shifter and the arms on these bend over time. Best thing to do is take the sifter apart to see how to bend the micro switch arm.
