Adjusting shift cables

Hi, Recently Replaced all cables on a 2000 3.0 Mercruiser. I have spent 2 days trying to find the happy medium. If I get reverse to work I loose Foward, If I get foward to work Then the safety switch stalls the engine and so on. I would appreciate all of your help.<br /><br />Thanks,<br />Jimmy
