I have a 1986 Yamaha 70hp two-stroke oil injected motor that runs great, but I'm having one minor problem. When I shift the boat into gear there's some "slack" before it actually gets to an idle. In other words, when I shift into gear I have to push the throttle lever up pretty far before it hits the range that actually gives gas to the motor and starts moving. If I just shift gently out of neutral and don't push the throttle very far the motor dies.

I'm trying to figure out how to adjust the linkage so that when I shift in gear there's no "dead" range before I get to increased RPM.

Thanks!

P.S. I have a repair manual for the motor, but I left it in the boat in the (not-dry) storage compartment and it got wet and swelled up to the size of a dictionary and the pages are stuck together so I can't find my answer in there.

Re: Adjusting Throttle Linkage on 70hp

I dont have the service manual here at home but I can tell you your going to have another issue.
if compression and spark are good and the carbs are synced and clean that engine will dead idle all day about 650 RPM and be quite happy.
so all I can say is find a copy of the procedure, a local dealer may have it or a local library.
but out of memory I cant help you, sorry.
