How do you adjust the trim on a boat w/o power trim when boat is in water?

Re: Adjusting trim

Depends what engine you have, really anything over 70 horse I don't see how you could get it up, even on a smaller motor it isn't any fun.

My boat came with a lifting bar that attached to the hood and you could lever it up like that and move the pin but that was pretty quickly replaced with a CMC TT.

I guess you could lift the motor, adjust the pin, and drop the motor but you would be hanging out of the boat. If you're alone I would not do it unless you could motor up to shore and make the adjustment while you're wading in the water. The problem with doing this over open water is dropping something overboard or you falling in.

Re: Adjusting trim

We had a '67 Lonestar cuddy cabin with a 100hp Johnson OB on it and it did not have power trim. It had to be pulled up manually every time for trailering and beaching.

There was a pin in the transom bracket you could use to adjust the trim angle, but once you find the most useful hole setting for your boat and load you'll probably leave it there. Can't remember ever changing it while on the water but I guess you could if you latched the motor all the way up and swam behind the boat. Don't drop the pin though. I have swapped props while the boat was launched but only in very shallow water while tied up at the shore.

Our next boat was a '83 Glastron and I sure did enjoy having power trim and tilt on its 140hp Evinrude OB. You really had to put your shoulder into it to get the old Johnson tilted up.
