I'd like to know the proper procedure for using a digital advance timing light.<br />I have a 1988 5.7L 350 OMC,4bbl.,Prestolite single point distributer,89% octane.
Hook up the pick-up lead to #1 cyl.Start the eng. and warm up to operating temp then turn the dial to make the timing mark on the balancer move to the deep notch on the timing plate(TDC).Read the timing light and thats your base timing.By raising the rpm you'll get the total advance reading. Check the manul for your base timing spec. but it should be around 8 or 10 deg.Hope this helps you.
