Re: Advantages of an engine bracket for your boat?
If I ever were to go back to a boat with outboards, I would get one with a full transom and motor brackets.

While fishing a tournament in the Gulf of Mexico on our Wellcraft 248 Sportsman about 10 years ago we lost our boat due to a 3 foot wave coming over the transom where the outboard well was only about a foot or so above the water line. We had a fish on and the line was into the motors. 2 of the guys on board went to the back to untangle the line at just the wrong time allowing the boat to be set up for the wave. It took 15 seconds for it to go.

This was nothing more than just bad luck, but I will never again have a boat with a low transom. Nothing against Wellcraft either. I am sure this was just a freak thing, but something to keep in mind if you fish offshore.

I know there are thousands and thousands of boats that will NEVER have a problem, but I will never be comfortable with one with a low transom again.
