Advice about 225 Evinrude 1991 XP

This Motor was modified by Montis Racing in Fl, and rigth now is 245hp, I just pick up this boat that was on sale, the former owner told me that in order to start this motor and make in forward has to be start in forward not in Neutral, bacause of the high compresion of the engine and dasmage the lower unit, is that could be true, does anyone knows about this way to start a higth performan engine,

I don't see how it could damage anything unless the idle speed is now set higher than normal.
