We are in the process of buying a 21 foot pontoon boat and are trying to decide between a 60 hp 4 stroke EFI engine and a 50 hp 2 stroke carbureted engine. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each, considering that the 4 stroke appears to cost an additional $2700?

Thanks much,

4 stroke will be better on fuel, much quieter and no smoke. The exception is the Evinrude E-tec. Some lakes are starting to ban 2-strokes for enviromental reasons. A trend that is expanding. Do plenty of research, then make a decision that works for you now and 10 years from now.

Banning of two strokes is limited to "carbureted and EFI" two strokes, not DFI like the E-tec.
