Suzuki DT 90 _ 1995

Symptom: Engine only goes up to 2400 rpm
- Sneezing at low rpm.

After having a few "sneezing? coughing?" problems while trolling last week I opted for changing the fuel water separator and found this (see pictures) !!!! Due to my finding in the filter I also emptied the gas tank (Polar V1700) with a syphon (about 13 gallons of fuel) . The fuel looked ok ,,free from impurities and the like. I havent putback any new gas on it yet. I also replaced the spurk plugs and fuel line including the bulb pump that looked old.

I just recently bought this boat, first time Suzuki user. I need some advice before i put gas tomorrow morning and crank it up/ what Do i need to know/do before i go start it up?

should i put some additives on the fuel.? high octane will help to clean/flush the carbs? Is it easy to acces/replace the fuel filter inside the engine? Some advice will be greatly appreciated .

Thank you in advance.
Ab.

The type of gas will not clean everytjing as well as you need. Unfortunately, there will be some gas (or water in your case) remaining in the tank since the tank pick up tube doesn't allow the use of all the tank contents. You can use "sea foam" or some other gas drying addative to allow the water remaining in the tank to mix with the gas and be burned. It appears that you already have a fuel/water separator so watch that and change frequently. The carbs will probably have to be rebuilt to get all the gunk out of them. In line fuel filter should be on right side of engine (looking aft) and low in the motor pan - not the easiest place to get to but not impossible. If you don't have a local Suzuki dealer try Browns Point Marine in New Jersey for (www.brownspoint.com) for parts and advice. Also buy a manual (Selco, Clymers or Factory) since that will help with all maintenance.

Some dri fuel or seafoam will clear up the remaining water in the tank.

Replacing the fuel/water seperator, fuel line, and primer bulb was the correct action.

Your carbs, as Steamboat suggested, could need some work. Check out the condition of the gas in the fuel bowl of the carbs. There will probably be water in there (my guess).
I would also take off the carbs, disassemble, clean in carb cleaner, rinse in water, dry and blow out all orfices with compressed air, and reassemble with new gaskets.

The gasket sets will run you about $25.

The Mikuni carb's on that engine are VERY sensative to contamination.

The carb. cleaning advice given is good, IMHO.

Thank you for the replies.

I put new gas this morning with an Iso Heet treatment on it. Pumped it really good , gave it a try (a few I should say) 'till it finally cranked out...smoother than what it was before....let it run for a few mnts. Took the boat to the boat ramp, warmed it out really good there and then trolled at 7/800 rpm. nice and easy ..it did fine...about (2mph). After trolling it for 10 mnts I gave her a try and planed reaching a cool 30 mph...couldn't be happier. Im still concerned about internal fuel filter tough since I did not inspected it internally. Over all the engine performed well so I got happy with that for now.

Thank you guys for the advice.
