Well, the worst probably happened. Bought a 1991 boat with a 1991 50 HP Evinrude. Second time out, horn sounded and after resarting, it would loss power and die. Took into shop, compression on top cylinder is 20% less than bottom cylinder and its scored. So, now what should I do? Have it bored, rebuilt, sell, or get a new motor?

Yes. All viable options. Generally speaking, if the block is boreable and the crank and rods are good then a rebuild is a good option. If youre in a hurry, the crank is bad or the block isnt boreable a powerhead replacement is the best option. You can find them right here on iBoats.

Obviously a new motor is up to you. You might want to take yours apart and just see where youre at once you have it measured. Those blocks can be bored up to .040 over. It just depends on if its standard now or not.
