Advice on picking out a tach?

Gentlemen....

I'm finishing up the connections to my 1998 Johnson 50 hp SPL and I'm wondering about a tach. I've capped off the oiler at the OB and will be premixing. So here is my question...

Should I be looking for one of these?

Or one of these with the "System Check"?

The "No Oil" and "Low Oil" warnings won't mean anything to me but it does give me info on "Check Engine" and "Hot". And, if I should happen to go with the "System Check" what do I need to do so the warning horn doesn't drive me bonkers? (if I need to do anything at all)

Thanks in advance fellas:)

Are you sure your outboard is compatible with the "Check Engine" function of this gauge? if so, that's the one I would go with.

Hmmmm, I thought I was sure? I suppose I assumed that it was capable as I have the MWS Harness...

I would think so, but this would be a question for the Johnson/Evinrude gurus.

You have the oil injection system disabled -- therefore the oil warning would be of no value. Overheat comes on the same time the horn sounds so that too is of no "added" value. The standard Teleflex or Faria will do nicely. But why not try Great Lakes Skipper (greatlakesskipper.com) for new old stock instruments. Good values there.

Cool, thanks guys. I think I'll just go with the standard tach which should be fine for my setup.

Ha! Funny you mention that silvertip - the ones I posted up there are from GLS:) Yah, they have good deals sometimes.

Cheers!
