Advice on running other stuff

Re-doing a 21 foot cuddy rinker with the idea being to do some long range cruising.... need to run a gps and computer ... how do I add some plug in electrical capabilities... thinking about running my laptop with a Garmin system ... because of security I need to have plug-in capability and then remove it (any advice on how to secure the computer when we leave the boat) .... doesn't have to be pretty, just work. thanks

I personally would recommend finding a 12v car charger that will operate your laptop if thats the only AC powered accessory you need, if you have other appliances you would like to plug in using AC power you will need to look at an inverter or generator. An inverter takes 12vdc and changes it into 120v AC allowing you to run items like a fridge or tv. (there are 12v fridges and tv's available as well) These items are quite small when compared to a typical generator and won't take up a ton of space on your craft.

Many larger boats are equipped with generators which are powered by a seperate engine to make AC power.. With this option you'll require much more space and if you're worried about security won't be a great choice unless you have a secure place to mount it.
