advice on steering systems

howdy yall got my 18 ft 74 silverline out yesterday after getting ready for summer an she ran great its a merc 888 the only gripe is the steering is really stiff witch makes it sorta a bear ta drive altough it is nice in some ways anyhow ya guys think i should just do the cable or replace the whole system with a newer one an have ya got any recomendations for a boat my size i also have an old larson 17 ftr that had awsome steering controls but really dont know if its worth the effort ta swap it in or just get new???thanks :confused:

May only be tight in the guide tube, manauals available in the Adults Only section.

ya i tried lubing the end that comes out over the motor the otherday didnt seem ta help much it was the same last yr just wonderd if i should try an fix what i got or replace the whole system with a newer one

First you need to determine which parts are tight or bad !

have you disconnected at engine side and tried turning the wheel?

those are some pretty old parts there and could be in your (rack) @ the wheel or the cable itself.
some steering setups you can get to under dash ,pull the cover if nec and check the components for wear and binding.

not a good place to skimp on things , so determine what is worn ,wearing or bad and replace it or get a complete system from wheel to cables end and replace and be safe.....
