Picked up a 89 Arrow Glass Coho, a deep v center console, heavy 19 footer. Good looking boat, lots of teak trim and needs alot of work.

The console sits half on a panel over the gas tank. This panel was sealed with house type silicone caulking. Let's water into the hull.

Going to pull the console, floor panel and replace everything. All connections and hoses to tank. Going with a digital fuel flow meter and backup fuel gauge. Gonna rewire everything, ring connectors, heat sealed and proper wire colors, fuse boxes, voltage meters and...

As you have already figured out, I more than a bit anal and a healthy bit paranoid about things breaking down while on the water.

Have purchased gauges, meters, gps, wire, connectors and tools. Have bought and read the recommended books.

Going to put in 3 batteries, redundant bilge pumps and need more dry storage.

What I am looking for is someone with the experience and knowledge to help me do this right. I will trade time on the water for your know how, with a few cold beers thrown in for good measure.

Anyone in the Tampa Bay area with the time and know how to help me ?

Thanks,

Pat

Re: Advise and Help Welcome

I just dealt with a 1983 Bayliner built Striper center console with that same console over panel set up. The console was loose on the floor, and the panel was rotted, when we pulled up the panel we found the entire lower structure was shot, it was so badly rotted from years of being wet it wasn't worth the trouble to repair. I belonged to a buddy of mine that bought it right, but hadn't figured on a major overhaul. The motor was A1 perfect though and only a few years old and the trailer was mint, so he got a deal either way. We ended up scrapping the hull, it just wasn't worth having to redo all the stringers, floor and transom plus all the glass work it would have needed. He could have just patched it and sold it off but the parts were worth more than the boat. He ended up buying a much newer boat and hanging that motor and all the goodies on the newer hull and still came out ahead.

Look close when you remove the console and panel, if it's been leaking water in there for any length of time, it's bound to be more than just a minor repair. Do a search here on wet foam and rotted floors.
Take a few pics and let us see what you find too.
