Hello everyone I am new here and have a question. First let me tell you what motor I have. (1995 Mercury 225 carb motor).I just got boat back from getting it serviced about a week ago.I had all seals replaced in lower unit it had never been done before and new water impeller, Motor Decarb they used a Mercury engine tuner product,Had plugs replaced and a general service done. plug type NGK BPZ8H-N.

Before I brought boat in it ran great but since I do alot of slow trolling I thought it would be wise to have the above done.I was going to go to the lake this weekend so I put on the muffs an cranked her up pisser works like a fire hose . Motor started great and I let It warm up about five minutes. It runs fine at idle and up to about 1200 rpms but I gave it a little throttle to about 1500rpms and it starts to stumble or like it is missing.I tried this a four or five times and the same thing happens each time.I let the motor cool down and looked at the plugs and they looked like they were all fouled with med dry carbon. I wonder if it was decarbed with the new plugs?
Anybody have any thoughts? Should I try new plugs? Puzzled ?? ?? I havent tried it in water yet just on muffs.

Why don't you give her a run in water ? You will get some back pressure which makes a big difference to the way it runs. The manual doesn't recommend running over 1200 on muffs.. I think Clams or Rodbolt has mentioned in a post about damage that can occur from "No load" on prop whilst running on muffs I think my Merc runs a bit rough when I try to rev it a bit on the muffs too.

Ya, clean those plugs off with some carb cleaner and hit the water.

-W

Re: After decarb question??

If I remember correctly Mercury Power Tune is to be spayed into the engine at high idle(1000-1200) until 2/3 of the can is used then you are supposed to run the engine up higher (2000-2600) and stall the engine out with the balance of the spray. After that you are supposed to go run it near full throttle until warm, then change spark plugs to new ones.If the service place skipped the part about running it until warm then there will still be some residual power tune in there which may make it hesitate a bit.My suggestion like the others is to go run it and see if it smoothes out. :D
