Re: AFTER MARKET FUEL PUMP

Just a suggestion - have you tried repairing the part you broke? I broke a plastic part on a carb. Cleaned it thorougly and repaired carefully with JB weld, shaped as necessary with a Dremel and it's as good and strong as new. The tricks are: finding the pieces, getting good and clean (I sprayed with carb. cleaner, brushed with a toothbrush, and dried thoroughly, then making the repair in such a way as to not clog any passageways, and shaping enough on the exterior so it serves it's function. Just a thought before you get into $$ and hassle.

Re: AFTER MARKET FUEL PUMP

Those small fuel pumps used to come standard on 175 and 200 crossflows. In pairs. They were never meant to be used on a V6 looper.

There is a "VRO" type pump that does not have oil injection that will work. But its not 45.00 either.

I'll stand by my first reply. And I think the light is getting brighter.

JB Weld FAQ

Of course I don't know if it would work on your particular plastic part, but I've repaired many plastic parts - outboard and other - with JB weld. They say it's resistant to gasoline, and I've found it true, so far. The trick to any fix w/ JB weld is to get it perfectly clean and dry and then to set up the project in such a way that the epoxy material will stay put and you can hold and/or clamp it steady while it dries. I've sometimes used tape to clamp and hold things in place, and if it doesn't matter, just ends up permanently attached. Or I whittle and/or grind the tape off later. Also, if there's interior passages - they need to stay clear of course, but sometimes you can drill things out aftwerward. I generally try to avoid this by using a toothpick or pin to be as precise as possible when applying the material when I'm mating broken surfaces. For the exterior parts, it's not as critical because it's pretty easy to grind and shape with a dremel and the right bit. Just like a dentist working on a crown!

good luck i am going through a similar problem and every mechanic wants top dollar which i dont care about but these people say its going to be a 2 to 3 week wait, then you gotta figure 2 to 3 days for parts and another 4 to 5 days for them to get back to the boat. to make a long story short its at least a month.

Boy, I wouldn't try to fix a fuel fitting with JB Weld. Vibration...fuel spewing inside the outboard. Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

Re: AFTER MARKET FUEL PUMP

Your motor is a looper and it must maintain proper fuel pressure to live. The no-oil fuel pump for a looper is 438402 -- I THINK. Ask your dealer to look it up to make sure. And yes, I do believe they're around 150.00. 165.00 if I remember right. But again, ask when you order it.

Truthfully, I'd rather have oil injection on that motor. Its a lot safer.
