After trying a couple searches..

I'll ask here. I noticed the prop on a boat I just bought has a couple "chips" taken out of the metal Closest to the hub. Not on the outside edges which would come into contact with rocks etc. I'm a bit confused. This is a Volvo Penta 120B with a 270 lower unit. The prop also has this thin metal disc which is loose between the prop and the housing. Thought this was the line cutter at first, but my diagram shows the line cutter as more barrel like instead of a disc. Any ideas? I'll take some pics when I get home. Thank you!

There is a video of the ring and the chips in prop.

It looks like your missing the zinc anode. # 31 in this link. It probably damaged the prop when it came apart. thats my theory anyway...

After a little more digging, it looks like it is the line cutter. One diagram I saw of it just showed the collar and not this disc.. Time to go look to see where the collar went? The thing looks stainless steel so I doubt it shattered. How will those chunks out of the prop affect performance being on the inside edge?

Probably not a noticeable amount of performance loss, but might cause a bit of vibration, or contribute to some cavitation burn on the prop blades though. A prop shop should be able to fix that prop up for short money while you have it off sorting out your line cutter.

Gotcha. I'll check around. We have a few decent Marinas, not too sure about prop shops. Thanks for the info.
