I reupholstered my boat and now I can't go over 800 rpm when I put it in gear. It will rev normally in neutral. Mercruiser throttle control. Should I buy new control or is there a fix to this rev limiting?

You probly have a cable out of adjustment. One of the guys will be along to give you more if you need it.

We took the throttle control off of the bulkhead, but didn't disconnect the cables. When we finished we reconnected the throttle control and have had the problem ever since. Every so often it will shift and run right, but you can put it in gear 100 times before that happens.

Well,........ My 1st Guess would be that you Obviously Didn't reinstall the controller properly............

If you take it back apart,.... Hopefully your Mistake will also be Obvious..........

Good hoping ... but we've tried it. I'll go back and fiddle with it. Was wondering if there is a rev limiter of sorts so you don't slam it in gear at too high of rpm's. If not, why would it perform in neutral - full rpm's - and not go over 800 rpm in gear? Haven't found such an animal, but I don't know what I'm looking for.

The manual is for the outdrive, not the throttle control. I'll look for one. Thanks.

did you re-upholster the carb.. :D This makes no sense unless you screwed up the throttle lingage somehow.... like Bondo says, take the throttle back apart and check it out......
