does any one have any opinions on the aftermarket outdrives that are available on this site and others?
I have noticed the price difference is pretty extreme, so i am seeking opinions.
i fear my drive is pretty close to s@#$ing the bed. the lower is pretty beat up(skeg is nicked up from the previous owners). so come fall I think it is time, for a new one or rebuild. if i have it rebuilt how much would it usually run?
any info would be appreciated.

Cheers
Chris

Howdy,

It's very hard to say not knowing what drive you're going to rebuild/replace...

If it's a Mercruiser Alpha, I would get an SE engr drive out of the box.

Bought one of the SE lowers for a 87 4.3lx/Alpha one replacement. Three year no fault replacement warranty, approx 700 bucks, bolts right up and uses stock sierra/merc water pump parts. Going on my third year, no issues. I have a pleasure boat, nothing that I make a living on. For my use it made a lot of sense. I heard, not verified, they use China bearings and such. But now days, who doesn't? Depending on the depth of your wallet, may be a viable choice for you.

For the price and warranty of the the SEI drive, it would be very very very hard to not buy one if yours took a crap.
My dad installed a complete drive on a friend's boat and it was straightforward, with no problems. The drive performs well.

I've got a bottom half on my set-up. I'm kinda hard on equipment and it's holding up just fine so far...
