i'm running a 2003 40 h.p 2 stroke Johnson outboard , we just bought this boat and the prop is pretty worn.

without taking the prop off can I see the number and where? want to get a spare. if they come with different pitches which pitche would give me a better performance?

oh yea....if I do take the prop off will it disturb the seal?

You usually need to remove the prop to see the numbers stamped on the hub. It won't hurt any seals.

You use a tachometer to select the prop that allows the motor to operate within the recommended WOT rpm range; probably 4500-5500 rpm in your case.

Prop size is usually under the prop nut.If you get us your boat size/weight, prop size, rpm and gps speed at wide open throttle(wot).
It will help tell how well your setup is working.
