I am trying to find out how old our Mercury 40 motor is so that I can find a manual for it. I think I need to find the serial number but don't know where that is on the motor.

I've had it for 5 years and bought it used. I'm tired of paying $$$$$ to winterize and do minor maintenance so I'd like to get the manual to learn more about it. I'm pretty handy with things like this, but will undoubtedly take it to the marina for things that are beyond me.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

Re: Age of Motor

Bonnie-your serial number should be on a plate or sticker on the side of the transom bracket-bracket that holds motor on boat...if that is gone Mercury also put it on the motor stamped in what is called a "freeze plug"-silver plug on top of block
