I just had a remanufactured powerhead installed on my 89 200hp looper. The serial number plate on the bracket is gone. The number on the silver plug is: g2531853. I cannot find any matches for this number. Can anyone tell me what it was from?

Thats the serial number of the motor that the powerhead originaly came off of. Have your E/J dealer run that and it will tell you what the motor was.

All 90 degree V6 loopers from 1988 to 1992 were basically the same.

My reman engine has a model number stamped on the powerhead - as well as a serial number. It's the model number which gives you the date of mfgr. It wasn't easy to find, but it was there. Maybe you can find it; if so, post it and we'll be able to tell you what year the powerhead is.

I've looked all over it. Where on the powerhead was it?

Diferent rebuilders use different methods to keep track of where powerheads came from (laws). Whoever rebuilt yours just leaves the original serial number and hopes for the best as far as a "paper trail" goes.

Some have numbers stamped where they are actually covered up by something like the power pack.

Just have Tim at Gator Creek Marine run that serial number and that will tell you what it came from.

Re: Age of new powerhead

I'll try to search it out this weekend and get back to you. It's been a couple of years since I looked at it and I have a poor memory. I VAGUELY (!!) remember it's on the motor's left side (as you stand behind it facing the bow) and it was partially or all obscured by a power pack or other part. I didn't actually have to remove a part to read the number, but it wasn't easy.
