If you a buy a boat through a broker it will come with a warranty??

Are these brokers looking for boats at dealers or private sellers??

Will the broker warranty a boat they find for you thru a private seller?

I must admit I dont know how this broker thing works.

boatingfool,

Boat Brokerages work like this...

Let's say you wish to sell your boat. First, the seller (whether a private owner or a boat dealer)list his boat with a broker for X amount of money. The broker then tacks on a broker fee to the price, and then posts the boat on the web, at boat shows, at their offices, and through a broker network, that ties alot of the brokers together, at Y amount of dollars, usually for a period of time.

If the boat sells in that period of time, the owner gets his money, and the broker gets his.

But if the time period expires on your boat, and it gets sold, say 1 month after the expiration of the brokers time period, the owner gets his money, and the broker gets nothing.

The nice part about purchasing from a broker is, first, they do most of the leg work in locating the vessel, they usually get your appraiser in to assess the vessel, and the broker usually attaches a warrantee to the deal, and a broker usually doesn't sell boats that are lemons or abused and not taken care of, because they can't sell those types of boats quick enough.

Most boats offered by brokers are in far better condition than most boats, that are for sale by their owners.

Hope that explains breifly, what a boat broker is suppose to do for it's customers.

Re: Aggrivating Time

I can't believe this...

Yesterday, I recieved a bill from 2 of the 3 brokers!

One wants $500, the other wants $755!?

According to my contract, dated 02/02/04, I'm only obligated to pay them IF I PURCHASE A BOAT WITHIN 30 DAYS OF REQUEST OF SERVICES!!!

Well, today is 03/02/04, and I have yet to make a purchase of a boat of any kind.

The one group, who is asking for the $755, said in the letter that they are going to send this bill to collection in 7 days!!

How can they do that???

I have not violated the terms of our contract, and as far as I'm concerned, I did not purchase a boat from anywhere, so I'm not paying for services, which by the way, they only located 1 boat, and it wasn't what I wanted, so they can just all take a long walk, off a short pier!!

Contacted my lawyer this morning!!

Called other broker this morning at 10:30 AM EST, but they aren't even open yet, and were closed on Mondays!!!

I must be in the wrong buisness or something, but if I conducted buisness the way these brokers do, I would have been sued and put out of buisness a long time ago!

How do they get away with this???

I have decided that I will wait till the end of the boating season this year, to make my purchase, as the prices are lower in the fall, than in the spring.

Sorry for venting, but I have found that iboats is a great place to vent from greedy people in the boating industry!!!

AAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH !!!!!!!!!
