I was setting up my trolling motor mount last night and managed to scratch the heck out of the paint on the bow. I can see black or dark gray where it is scratched. I want to fill in the scratches, how should I go about doing this? Also I have read much discussion on buffing out paint / gelcoat, what is the difference between paint and gelcoat? If I want my boat to look better what am I working on the paint or the gelcoat? When buffing it what do I use a compund, polish, paint, etc? Let me know what you folks think, Thanks in advance.

If you have gelcoat you can go to any marina or boat store in your area and buy a gelcoat repair kit.<br />After making the repair I would buff with 3M rubbing compund then finish with 3M finess-it. Paint you will have to touch it up and then use the 3-m products listed above.

Thanks for the response, Bluewater. I will go check out this 3M stuff. I know a lot of people reccomend it, but you know how it is when you get down to the boat store and then you see some of these other products that promise better results with less work. I never know, some of it works, some of it don't. Thanks again.
