1994 mercruiser 4.3lx with Weber 4bbl and electric fuel pump

Boat has always been very hard to start the first time but after the first time it starts great the rest of the day and then difficult again after sitting all night. Fuel is not getting to the carb so we added and momentary push button but it still isn't getting fuel to the carb. Boat will start for a second until carb bowls are empty then dies. Carb was rebuilt 2 seasons ago.

If you knock a wrench on the pump it will start pumping fuel to the carb within a minute or so. I took the hose from the tank and put it in a remote tank and still nothing until I put my thumb over the hose will pumping and it started working again right after. I'm thinking the check ball is faulty and not creating suction and allowing fuel to drain out the hose over night causing hard starts.

Anyone have any advice or experienced fuel pump issues like this. Just looking for other opinions before buying a new oem fuel pump. Thanks in advance.

Anti siphon valve at tank was fine and clean and moved freely when pushed or blown into. Pickup tube in tank is also good it looks like

Ayuh,.... The electric fuel pump on my 4.3l used to not want to work, til I thumped it,...
Eventually, I bought another one, I pulled it apart, 'n cleaned the electrical contacts where the wires hook up,....
The original started workin', 'n the other one is still in my toolbox,...
