Dear All,

Another outboard project. Ailsa Craig (Tomas) 4hp

Can anybody identify the particular model of Bing carb attached please?

It runs, but only starts if the carb bowl is nearly empty of fuel. If carb bowl is full, and needle valve shut, engine won't start, though spark plug is wet with petrol, may be getting too much fuel. I've cleaned the carb and jets, and the float looks OK. It isn't an adjustable float.

Can anybody advise what the problem may be please?

I need to ID the carb to order parts to rebuild.

Thanks,

Shep65

It look's a bit like the the old Puch 2 speed bike carb, but it just sounds like the floats not working or the needle is not stopping the fuel, I do have the manual and parts book for the 4hp.

What kind of float; metal, cork or ??
If metal, shake it to see if fuel is inside. If cork or (??), float it in a cup of gas to see if it sinks.

It's a looks like a dense polystyrene type float, similar to cork. Floats Ok in jar of gas.

Thanks for replies.
