I have a mercury 50 - 1972 and while in a test tank I noticed bubbles comming out of what I thought was the water intake holes. Is this ok?? Also I would like to use those water cups (ears) to test motor, but I have two sets of holes on my lower unit. And the higher ones have ridges on top and bottom so the ears do not cover. Any help?

Re: air bubbles comming out water intake

If you see a good stream out of the pee hole and it doesn't get hot during operation I would suspect all is normal.

You may be best off running in a barrel rather than the muffs if you can't get them to fit up properly.

When running in barrel make sure the water level is kept as far above the flat anticavitation plate as possible. At least as high as the waterline left from use.
