air conditioning seacock

I was checking the oil on my engines and noticed a tag on the inlet seacock for the AC. It said to keep the seacock closed when not in use. It is getting cooler here in the northeast so I probably will not be using the cabin AC. I closed the valve. What is normal practice in the summer? Should the seacock be closed each time I leave the boat?

Thanks. Mine has been left open this past month. Another lesson learned.

If you keep it in the water and your away, close it. If you trailer, then keeping it open would be okay except you run the chance of loosing your prime.

For a boat that stays in the water, ALL seacocks should be closed when not aboard. 2 years ago we had a 34' Silverton (similar to mine) go down in its slip due to a failed engine intake hose. It was a very sad sight.
I made a hang tag for my keyswitches to remind myself to open them. Exercising the seacocks regularly also keep them healthy.

On our sailboat we shut all the seacocks whenever were not on the boat. We hang the engine key on the engine seacock as a reminder to open it. I wish my alpha one had a seacock on the tube through the transom.
