Force 85 (1989). Is there supposed to be a filter element or any king of protection on the square box around the carbs? One would think that the black foam on the inside of the motor cover could be sucked into the carbs with out anything.
Please advise.

Thanks,
Ken

Re: Air filter

MD,

Would it be benifical to add a piece of clean foam or some type of filter over the deflector. I have washed out the engine compartment with water to get rid of small pieces of black foam from the cover. Since that stuff is coming loose from the cover, I would hate to have it sucked into the carbs. Would adding a filter restrict the intake too much?
Please advise. Your help is appreciated.

Ken

Re: Air filter

I just ripped out all of the old fabric just for that same concern. I installen new hood padding (for cars) and layered metal tape to keep some of the heat off the padding.

Re: Air filter

forceluver,

What about tearing all the old foam off the cover and not putting anything on it at all? Isn't the foam only on the cover for noise reduction?
Please advise.

Thanks,
Ken
