I have a 1980 115 Johnson, with a 3 wire tilt and trim motor. I replaced the O-ring on the manual trim bypass valve and now the motor will not stay up. The motor raises up fine, but lowers back down in few seconds. I think I must have introduced air in the system, but I'm not sure how to bleed it.

did you bleed the system, afterwards. run tilt all the way up, lock in place, fill reservoir, run down, back up, lock, fill, repeat until it takes no more fluid. then cycle it 1/2 dozen times.

Thanks for the tip, no I just cycled up and down several times. I'll try your method after the big storm passes this weekend

Check the seal on the tip of the valve, if this seal bad, you will have to replace the valve.
