the dufus is back with another dumb question.when i repaired my engine after the tree hit the boat, i had to replace my air silencer. i checked my carb mounting bolts today and they seemed a little loose. could this have been part of my problem?it still runs ok and the idle is a little high. any opinions out there?i have a solid 2 months left to fish, then it is entirely up to the weathera day here or there. it very rarely gets too cold to fish for a long period of time. i will be running my gas out from now on and draining my carbs. these forums have been a godsend. thanks.

Hipster,

Those long 6mm bolts (with the 10mm heads) that hold the sandwich of the silencer, carb, and thermal spacer (with the gasket on each side) to the intake manifold should be snug. If they seem to loosen over time, you can put blue LocTite on the threads. Don't use the red stuff, as they will be too difficult to remove in the future.

If the carb actually becomes loose on the manifold, you will get lean conditions, especially at low speeds, which can cause an erratic idle and low-speed stalling.
