air leak?

Newly aquired '59 5.5 Fisherman. I used some suggested initial carb settings... 3/4 turn on low and 1 1/2 on high... The previous owner replaced the fuel line that runs from bottom to top cylinders on the left side (near gear lever) with clear yellow tubing. I see that there is air in it. I pulled it off from the top only and filled it up with gas then put it back on. After running for a few minutes (and not all that well) the air is back... Any thoughts here oh wise ones? (which, when comparing to me right now is a fairly large group). Very hard to get it started right now and I can see that air in there. ANy thoughts would be welcome and also tips on starting/carb set up...

Re: air leak?

I am sorry to say thay I am not sure which scenario ( of the three ) is mine... Could you let me know which is appropriate for the 1959 5.5 Fisherman?

Pardon my ignorance here...
