Re: Air war on my porch!!
I also have a couple of pairs of Hummingbirds nesting and feeding in my yard. I've seen the males chase off Robins and Bluejays! If the feeder is down for cleaning or refill the little guys let us know for sure that they are hungry, buzzing around the windows and doors until the sugar water is back. They also keep busy with all of the flowers in the yard. Did you know the same birds will return to your feeders year after year? If you start to feed them you've taken on a commitment!

On nest box pirates: House Sparrows (European Immigrants) will invade a nest and peck the eggs of the Swallows, Bluebirds, etc. and lay their own. They will even kill the parents or drive them off. House Sparrows are not protected by law, but a lot of gentler native Sparrows are. We have a big problem with Starlings (European, unprotected) ruining Flicker nests.

Anyone seen a Hummingbird Moth?
