airflow problem on 5.0fi penta

Ive recently bought a 94 regal 202se have had a few problems so far. Now once the boat warms it doesnt want to idle with the motor hatch closed once the hatch is open it does fine. I had it in neutral reving it up to about 2000 rpms with hatch closed once i opened the hatch the rpms went to about 27 or 2800. I also noticed a leak in the back around the exhaust elbow and when i gas on it waters comin in pretty good its hard to see exactly whats leaking got dark on me hope to get back on it tommorow after work. Any suggestions would be appriciated.Its got the 302fi 5.0 volvo penta sx series

run the engine room blower. it should help significantly

If you’re leaking exhaust water you’re also leaking exhaust gasses.
Engine might be trying to burn air it has already burned before.
Fix the exhaust system and the problem should go away.
