I have a 14.5 x 19 3 blade aluminum prop. WOT rpm's are right where they should be. I am going to by a new prop (got a few dings on this one). Do I get the same size in SS or do I need to adjust it a little?
Thanks!

Loaded question. If you get a 4-blade, drop an inch. If you get a 3-blade, go up an inch. But there are so many variables that this is far from carved in granite. Once upon a time, aluminums were odd pitches and stainlesses were even pitches, but even that is no longer a rule. It all comes down to trial and error.

Adding to Willy's comment....alums have not performed well for me as compared to SS and usually alum was not cupped and all SS's were which amounts to about 1" of additional pitch when you are comparing them.

The SS usually has things that make it perform better so you can probably run a higher pitched SS, and get more mph and run more rpm's in the process.

Go and purchase your SS where you can test the prop before you buy it. That is the only way you will know. You may pay more for it initially but in the long run you will save money......like I bought 3 before I got it right.

Also, read up on here about prop selection, performance, rpm range, setup, differences in props, and all that stuff before you spend your money.

Thanks for the info guys.

Unfortunately, I don't have any try-before-you-buy places around here.

Right now I am running a michigan wheel vortex 3 blade al. I am considering the michigan wheel rapture 3 blade ss. Tricky stuff this prop business.

If you go with a turbo or stilletto they will allow you to factory exchange for 25.00, but they are expesenvie, and you must stay within the line you have purchased
