Here's my problem, I have a 1988 V150 Merc. I just recently bought the boat and it hasn't been run for 2 years. I have replaced all of the cooling parts so far and now the alarm beeps even when I disconect the 3 points that it monitors. I have about 4,000 ohms of rsistance between the power wire and the signal wire [purple and tan wire], I think that maybe the module is bad but I don't know if there should be any resistance between those two wires. Any thoughts or sugestions? Thanks

Re: Alarm module

The alarm module counts rpms from a cylinder on the switchbox (trace the green wire from the module to a swicthbox)---if the motor is running and that clyinder isn't firing; the alarm will sound. And the motor will definately start and run with one or more cylinders not firing, especially on the hose.

Re: Alarm module

Thanks for the replys, the tone is a pulsed tone the same tone as when the oil tank is low. If I understand Outboard tech correctly, I could have the cyclinder not firing which would cause an alarm also. I pulled the plugs and do have one of the plugs that didn't look like it was firing. Guess I better look in that direction a little closer. Thanks again.

Re: Alarm module

Trace that plug's coil to the switchbox to see if that's the one the oil warning module is hooked to.
