Hello everybody

I'm new to your forum and have enjoyed reading all your posts, an amazing wealth of information. I was raised on a lake but have been away from boating for about 20 years. I'm retired and raising my 12-year-old grandson. Trying to get him interested in something besides videogames I purchased a 1991 Sea Ray BR with a 5.7 Mercruser Alpha 1. It's a beautiful boat in great shape seller claimed that it only had 150 hours on it. Can't seem to find the hour meter anywhere on the boat to see for myself. I've been going through the boat from top to bottom to familiarize myself with everything, my problem today is when I tried to start it the alarm sounded continuously even though it started and seem to run fine. Oil pressure was at 80 PSI I have no idea where to go from here your help would be appreciated!

Howdy

You year boat will not have an hour meter and being a 1991, I would not believe it only had 150 hours. If it did, it could have even more issues sitting that long.

In any case to your question; the alarm will sound off for
Motor overheat
Low drive lube
Low oil pressure

Do these one at a time until the alarm goes off
Start by disconnection the drive lube bottle (if its not empty)
Next on the thermostat housing there is a switch with a Tan/Blue wire attached, remove connector
Behind and below the distributor is the oil pressure switch, unplug it

If the oil pressure switch stops the alarm, it does need to be replaced because it also runs the fuel pump

After getting this fixed, and if you have not done it already, pull the drive, check alignment, change drive lube and bunch of other stuff.
