1994 - 115 HP Mercury
Recently had an oil alarm malfunction. So I checked the sensor, it was fine. Concluded it was the float in the tank. Replaced the tank, new design by the way, and turned the key to the "on" position. Everything seemed fine. A short beep to let me know it was working. I then tested the nav. lights, fishpump etc and the alarm, a continous beep started.

I know this would be the temp. sensor circuit, but wondering if a bad ground can cause the false alarm. The engine isn't running while the alarm goes. Just the key in the on position.

Also, had an OHM meter, and when I grounded the meter to the block and touched the temp. sensor's terminal block with the meters lead the alarm would sound, lightly but it would sound.
I know I need to disconnect the lead for the sensor but I think a ground is short. How do you find a shorted ground or troubleshoot this problem?
