Just for fun I thought I'd post my opinion (troll, rant, whatever) on the current state of our political system.

On one side you have the Democratic party. A party under the total control of the far left. The dems can't seem to do anything but whine and complain. They offer no new ideas and have pretty much abandoned the majority of their "normal" members. Most dems that I know who are over say 35, stick with their party with the idea that it still stands for the american worker, truth, honesty, and the american way of life. Kind of like Superman.

On the other side you have the Republican party. Most on the left believe that this party is controlled by the far right. In fact, the republican party is controlled by itself. It is a self serving machine that runs for office on the principles of conservatives, but as soon as they move into their new office, they blow us off and do what they want. The over 35 crowd in this party sticks around for 2 reasons. They remember the leadership and inspiration of Reagan, and their choices at the polls are bad (republican) or real bad (democrats).

The fact is that for every lefty troll you see about some republican offical, you can (if you want to bother) post a troll on some democrat.

I wrote one of my Senators yesterday to voice my dissatisfaction with the illegal alien issue in the senate. If I disapear, you'll know why.

I lean towards the conservative side of things but am running out of voting options. I'd vote for a third party candidate if I could find one that isn't a nut in their own right.

If you don't like my thread and are going to post a troll related pic, please post something new so I can add it to my collection. I really liked the straightjacket and Pee Wee pics posted on another thread. :)

Pretty balanced bash at both parties, Alden.

There are a few in DC that don't toe the line of their "party". The press calls them "moderates".

I frankly see GWB as a moderate. That gets him in trouble with both sides.

Re: Alden on politics...

We have a R senator here running unopposed (LUGAR). He is voting as a complete RINO during the ILLEGAL immigration debates and is unafraid of his constituents. I have emailed him and he won't even acknowledge the mail. Bill Frist from Tenn, no less, at least acknowledges my email and I'm not in his state.
On the House side, my 2nd dist rep Chris Chocola sent a very detailed reply to my email. A form, no doubt, but covering all of the issues I wrote about. It isn't hard to figure out who's "looking out for me"!

I think you have summed up the situation in a nut shell. A politician's sole focus is to get re-elected. I believe that some start out trying to do what they were elected to do but get seduced by power or greed or just realize their efforts are futile and join in with the "herd". I'm a firm believer in term limits so we don't end up with people like Bird, Kennedy, and the rest that have gotten so entrenched they will never leave.

I guess if the politician sole goal in life is to be re-elected, than they are no longer really public servants as they are really only serving themselves.

95% suck. I may not like Feingold but at least he is true to his message. Liberal Liberal Liberal. When you vote for him you know exactly what you are going to get.

I can't say that for a whole bunch of RINO's. Conservative today, liberal tommorrow. Makes me sick that they can't stick to what should be their core beliefs. Look at earmark spending during a so-called conservative adminstration. After watching these so-called conservatives, I feel like I need a shower, I just feel dirty.

It's all quite simple, fellas.

Ya got your Innies and your Outties. The Innies want to stay in; the Outties want to toss the Innies and get themselves in. Conversely, the Innies want desperately to stay in, and will do anything to retain that position.

The rest of us don't really matter until we're needed to confirm one side or the other by casting our "vote".

Cynical, well I guess so....

Re: Alden on politics...

I have written to Sen Hutchinson and to Sen McCain. Hutchinson because she is from TX and McCain because he marches to his own drummer.

I recieved detailed replies from both. Thoughtful, insightful replies surely written by staff but clarifying their positions.

Party platforms are very lengthy and detailed and always include some stuff that any given individual will disagree with. I look for the politician who rebels against his/her party and refuses to support some position based on his/her personal values.

Anyone who buys into everything one party "stands for" and bashes everything the other party "stands for" is someone who doesn't think very well.

I was going to read them, but the republican one is 92 pages long.

I didn't check the democrat one yet.

Re: Alden on politics...

Core beliefs and platforms are not the same thing. Maybe we should call them tennents of the party. More government, less government. Following the law, interpreting the law. Strong national identity, diversity. Socialism, Individualism.

Example: I believe that a conservative would WANT to maintain our boarders, not pander to newly created subgroups. I shouldn't have to go to their web site to find out what their position on this issue would be.

I might however need to look to see if a new bridge into San Francisco is a good idea to spend Federal funds on based on the specific issues that might be unknown to me.

Re: Alden on politics...

I take it, Alden, you got your analysis of the dems from Rush or some other radical right wing nutjob.

There are dems that I agree with on some issues and some I don't. Some dems I would vote against if the repubs offer a better candidate.

In Michigan Carl Levin is great, and Debbie Stabenow is an intellectual lightweight. A nice lady, I'm sure, but unqualified for the job.

At this point in time, we have had enough of Republican rule, so unless a R candidate promises me free gas for a year or two, I can't even imagine myself voting for a R this time for any reason.

Answering a PW2 post is against my better judgement, but I'll try anyway.

If you would take the time to read my thread without all your pre-concieved hate, you would find that I refered to people I KNOW.

Many of these folks are very active in the party and express displeasure with the nuts who are defining it.

You're most likely part of the way way far left faction so that's probably why your whining about Rush etc.

JB made a good point about your "gimmie for free" comment. Thankfully MY dem friends aren't like that. They're just normal Americans who take pride in earning their own way.

Love,
Alden
:)

The same could be said for shirts, socks and pants. The frequency and cause is much different however. Good Troll Alden.

Re: Alden on politics...

Alden, you accused the dems all as being under the "control" of the far left.

Are you suggesting you know all dems?

And JB, I am not looking for anything free. I have voted for my share of R's in my day.

I will not vote for a R this time for any reason because we have had enough of R's controlling gov't--this is one of those cases, IMHO, where a bad dem is preferable to a mediocre Rep.

It has not been this way before, but it is now.

Call it whatever you want.

We have a two party system. We even have a few independents. We have had enough of one party rule.
